Artist History
Oki Kangaku (1817-1876) was a painter from the end of the Edo period. He was born in Imabari, Iyo. He discovered his love for painting under the tutelage of Yamamoto Unkei, and went to Kyoto to study painting in earnest under the Kishi family. He then went to Edo. In his later years, he returned to Imabari. His son Kanrei was famous as a Chinese scholar.
