Artist History
Takakuwa Ryūko (1810-1858) was a painter of the late Edo period. He was born in Oshi Castle, Saitama County, Musashi. In Edo, he studied literati painting under Yoda Chikkoku and Yamato-e painting under Ukita Ikkei. At one point, he was adopted by Tani Buncho's disciple, Takaku Aigai. He created his own unique style of painting, fusing Nanga painting and Yamato-e painting.
