Artist History
Koike Kyokko (1758-1847) was a painter of the late Edo period and a samurai of the Mutsu Sendai domain. He was born in Rikuzen. He studied under Matsubayashi Yoko in Edo, and later studied landscape painting under Wang Shuming and bird and flower painting under Shen Nanpin. He was one of the four great painters of the Sendai domain, and specialized in bird and flower painting.
