Artist History
Tokugawa Yoshimune (1684-1751) was the eighth Shogun of the Tokugawa Shogunate. He was the third son of Tokugawa Mitsusada, the lord of the Kishu domain. In 1705, he became the fifth lord of the Kishu domain, and worked to restore the domain's finances. In 1716, he became Shogun and carried out the Kyoho Reforms, and is known as the wise ruler who restored the Shogunate. He encouraged martial arts and scholarship, especially practical studies.
