Artist History
Kakizaki Hakyo (1764-1826) was a painter of the late Edo period. He was the fifth son of Matsumae Sukehiro, the 12th feudal lord of the Matsumae domain. He was adopted by the chief retainer Kakizaki Hirotake, and studied painting under Takebe Ayatari and So Shiseki at the domain's residence in Edo. He was later heavily influenced by Ohara Donkyo and became a pupil of Maruyama Okyo.
