Artist History
Sakai Tadaaki (1811-1876) was a feudal lord from the end of the Edo period to the Meiji era. He was the ninth lord of the Dewa Shonai Domain and the eldest son of Sakai Tadakata. He worked to strengthen the Shonai coastal defenses and military system. He was also ordered by the shogunate to guard Shinagawa Battery and Ezo.
