【Nagasawa Rosetsu】(1754–1799)
The painter Nagasawa Rosetsu(1754–1799)was active in Kyoto in the mid-Edo period and studied under Maruyama Ōkyo(1733-1795). Rosetsu always pursued new expressions and techniques and loved to surprise and entertain people.
【Minagawa Kien】(1735–1807)
A Confucian scholar from the mid-Edo period. Born in Kyoto. Wrote commentaries on many classics, including "Laozi," "Zhuang Zhou," "Liezi," and "Analects of Confucius." In 1818, he opened the Kodokan, an institute of learning, and produced many disciples. He was also skilled in poetry, calligraphy, and painting.
