Artist History
Kosugi Hoan (1881-1964) was a Western-style and Japanese-style painter. He was born in Tochigi Prefecture. He studied Western-style painting under Ioki Fumiya, and exhibited oil paintings at the Taiheiyo Art Association under the pen name "Misei", winning consecutive awards at the Bunten. He joined the Western-style painting department of the revival of Nihon Bijutsuin. After leaving the school, he founded the Shunyo-kai. He changed his pen name to "Hoan" and painted Japanese-style paintings.
