Artist History
Koike Kyokuko (1758-1847) was a painter of the late Edo period and a samurai of the Mutsu Sendai domain. He was born in Rikuzen. He studied under Matsubayashi Youko in Edo, and later studied landscape painting under Wang Shuming and bird and flower painting under Shen Nanpin. He is one of the four great painters of the Sendai domain. He was also skilled in waka poetry.
