Artist History
Tokugawa Tsunayoshi (1646-1709) was the fifth Shogun of the Edo Shogunate. He was the fourth son of the third Shogun, Iemitsu, and the younger brother of the fourth Shogun, Ietsuna. He is known for issuing the Edicts on Compassion for Living Things (Shōruiawareminorei). He was skilled in calligraphy.
