Artist History
Takeuchi Seiho (1864-1942) was a Japanese painter. He was born in Kyoto. At the age of 17, he entered the private school of Kono Bairei, a painter of the Shijo school. He is known as the leader of Bairei's four heavenly kings. While he was a leading figure in the Kyoto art world, he also actively taught the younger generation.He also established his own private school,the Chikujokai. His students included Uemura Shoen, Nishiyama Suisho, Tsuchida Bakusen, Ono Chikkyo, and Hashimoto Kansetsu. In 1937, he was awarded the first Order of Culture.
