【Carp climbing up a waterfall】

Kano Takanobu studied under Isen'in and worked as an official painter for the Edo Shogunate, painting the sliding screens of Edo Castle. Compared to the precision of the carp, the depiction of the splashes of water is more stylized and unique.

Artist History
Kano Takanobu(1809-1892) was Japanese Painter. 10th-generation head of Negishi Ogyonomatsu Kano school, pupil of and successor to Kano Kansei Yoshinobu. Studied with Kano Isen'in Naganobu. Participated in creation of wall paintings for Edo Castle. After Restoration, worked for Ministry of Education and the Museum, won prize at 1st National Painting Competition in 1882.
