Artist History
Nomura Bunkyo (1854-1911) was a Japanese painter from the end of the Edo period to the Meiji period. He was born in Omi. He first studied ukiyo-e under Umekawa Tokyo, and later studied under Shiokawa Bunrin and Mori Kansai. He honed his skills by drawing landscapes and landscape paintings based on real-life sketches. He was active in the Kyoto art world, and later in the Tokyo art world. He founded the Japanese Painting Association with Kawabata Gyokusho and Araki Kanpo. Yamamoto Shunkyo was one of his students.
