Artist History
Kano Isen'in (1775-1828) was a painter of the Kano school in the late Edo period. He was born in Edo and was the eighth head of the Kobikicho Kano school. He was the son of Kano Yosen'in Korenobu and was appointed a Hougen(法眼) in 1812. He possessed all the elements that would be developed in the next generation, such as the revival of ink painting, the vibrant coloring of colored paintings, and the active adoption of the detailed, rich coloring techniques of Yamato-e painting.
