Nagai Ikka / Yatagarasu
This work was painted by Nagai Ikka, who was known as the crow doctor. The Yatagarasu is a three-legged crow that is the messenger of the Amaterasu Omikami. The way it flies through the light evokes the Chinese legend that the three-legged crow lives in the sun.
Honnyo / Crow
Honnyo studied painting under Yoshimura Kokei, one of the Ten Excellent Painters of the Okyo School. He used the tsuketate technique common in the Maruyama school.
