Artist History
Kawanabe Kyosui (1868-1935) was a Japanese painter from the Meiji to Showa periods. She was the daughter of Kawanabe Kyosai and was born in Edo. She was taught the basics of Japanese painting by her father, Kyosai, and at the age of 19 she became a disciple of Yamana Tsurayoshi and studied the Tosa school. She excelled in portraits of beautiful women. She was a member of the Japan Art Association and a professor at Private Women's School of Fine Arts(PWSFA).
