Artist History
【Mori Sosen】
Mori Sosen (1747-1821) was a painter from the late Edo period. His birthplace is unknown, but he was active in Osaka. He placed importance on realism and became a master of monkey paintings. He is the founder of the Mori school.

【Obaku Kacho】
Obaku Kacho (1740-1827) was a monk of the Obaku sect in the late Edo period. He was the 25th abbot of Manpuku-ji Temple in Uji. He was born in Omi. At the age of 15, he entered Mt. Hiei and became a monk under the monk Hougyoku. He turned to Zen and studied under Chugaku of Shomyoji Temple in Omi. He studied Zen under Tando in Iyo and Hakuin Ekaku in Suruga. After Hakuin's death, he became the chief priest of Shomyoji Temple.
