Goshun (1752-1811), also known as Matsumura Gekkei, was a painter from the mid-Edo period. Founder of the Shijo school. He first studied painting under Onishi Suigetsu, and later studied painting and Haiku under Yosa Buson. After Buson's death, he liked Maruyama Okyo's paintings and asked him to become Okyo's disciple, but Okyo firmly declined. Instead, as his best friend, he studied painting theory and sketching, and became an authority.
